The Upper Beaujolais (Haut-Beaujolais) is the northern, mountainous part of the Beaujolais wine country, defined by wooded hills, fir forests and authentic villages. Unlike the wine-growing Beaujolais to the south, it offers a wilder, preserved landscape rising above 1,000 metres at Mont Saint-Rigaud.
The wine-growing Beaujolais further south consists mainly of vineyards and golden-stone villages. The Upper Beaujolais is mid-altitude country covered with forests, meadows and verdant hills — ideal for hiking and complete escape.
The Upper Beaujolais offers a dense network of waymarked trails: Mont Saint-Rigaud (1,009 m), the highest point of the Rhône, the Col des Écharmeaux, the forest loops of Saint-Igny-de-Vers and paths along the Sornin river. MTB and trail-running routes are also accessible from the house.
